Department Recommendation: It is recommended that Council approve a one-time discretionary bonus for employees in accordance with previous Council direction.

Background Discussion:

To recognize the City’s valued employees during this time of rising costs and inflation, in a closed session meeting on December 20, 2021, City Council gave direction to provide a one-time lump-sum discretionary bonus for active employees as follows:

                     $2,000 for full-time* employees

(*Includes regular, probationary, at-will, and contract employees)

$500 for hourly employees working consistent schedule

                     $200 for hourly employees working seasonally/special interest/sports officials/minimal hours

The lump sum will be included on the February 18, 2022 paycheck. Only those employees on payroll and receiving a paycheck on that date will be eligible. CalPERS retired annuitants are not eligible for the bonus.

Staff obtained agreement with unrepresented employees and represented bargaining groups by means of a Side Letter.

Fiscal Impact:

Approximately $1,250,000, of which approximately $722,000 will be paid from the General Fund and the remainder from Special Revenues Funds, Internal Services Funds, and Enterprise Funds.
