Department Recommendation:
Staff recommends that City Council authorize the City Manager to award the construction contract to A-C Electric Company of Bakersfield, CA for the Traffic Signal Interconnect Project along Ben Maddox Way and Tulare in the amount of $1,447,432 and appropriate $1,876,000 from the Measure R Local Fund (131).

Summary:
This project is to provide traffic signal interconnect communication to existing traffic signals along sections of Ben Maddox Way, Tulare Ave, Noble Ave, and Lovers Lane. A new fiber optic communication cable shall be installed, along with associated equipment, to establish communication with the Traffic Management Center (TMC). In addition, the new fiber cable will also expand the City's Information Services communication network to the new Fire Station #56.

Background Discussion:
The City continues to expand its Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) network by establishing new connections to signalized intersections. Under that broad goal, this project will install new fiber optic cable between VECC and existing signalized intersections along the following street sections:
- Ben Maddox Way from Goshen Avenue to Tulare Avenue
- Tulare Avenue from Ben Maddox Way to Lovers Lane
