Department Recommendation:
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to award the design contract to JLB Traffic Engineering for professional consulting services to prepare plans, specifications, and estimates for the Traffic Signal Interconnect Improvements at Various Locations Project in the amount not to exceed $122,908.59 (3010-72000/CP0513-999).

Background Discussion:
The City is requesting the services of a Consultant to prepare the Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) for the construction of traffic signal interconnect improvements. These improvements will include 5.5 miles of fiber optic cable installation in existing conduit, 0.5 miles of new conduit and new fiber optic cable installation, and connection of 13 traffic signals to the fiber optic system. The locations receiving interconnect improvements include: Houston Avenue from Demaree Street to Giddings Street, Mooney Boulevard from Murray Avenue to Houston Avenue, Murray Avenue from Mooney Boulevard to Divisadero Street, Ben Maddox Way from the Visalia Emergency Communication Center at Goshen Avenue to St. Johns Parkway, and Demaree Street from Caldwell Avenue to Campus Avenue.
