Department Recommendation: Staff recommends that City Council authorize the filing of a Notice of Completion for the Plaza Park Pond Shoreline Replacement Project.
Summary:
The Plaza Park Pond Shoreline Replacement Project replaced the deteriorated concrete shoreline with a new reinforced concrete shoreline that provides a safer and beautified public recreation area. The construction contract was awarded to Cal Valley Construction in the amount of $789,315.00 with the final project cost totaling $925,156.56 and was funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. Staff is requesting authorization to file a Notice of Completion for the Plaza Park Pond Shoreline Replacement Project.
Background Discussion:
The Plaza Park Pond is a facility that is located at Plaza Park. This facility is a pond that is accessed by the public for leisure and enjoyment. Over the approximate 50 years of the existing facility being in operation, the concrete shoreline perimeter of the pond experienced significant deterioration, cracking, and erosion. This is likely a result of aged concrete and soil settlement over the years.
In 2018, city staff began preparing a bid package for construction improvements on the pond shoreline. Due to construction costs and funding shortfalls, the project was not awarded for construction at the time.
