Background Discussion:
The Airport lift station pumps approximately 2 million gallons of raw sewage a day utilizing 4 submersible pumps that rotate the lead position to keep each pump from running 24 hours a day. In November 2021, the lift station experienced a main breaker failure that was later determined to be caused by a catastrophic pump failure. When the pumps were pulled for inspection only one had failed, but within a week, two more had failed, leaving one operational pump. Staff has since rented a pump at a monthly cost of $5300, to keep this lift station operational.

The City currently has a contract with Shape, Inc. to purchase Flygt pumps for our lift stations with a not to exceed amount of $200,000 annually. Staff has currently utilized $29,000 of this contract, with an additional $40,000 on order awaiting shipment. Staff has received a quote from Shape Incorporated, the City's sole source vendor for Flygt pumps, to replace all 4 lift station pumps at a cost of $200,351.40.
