Department Recommendation:
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to award a purchase order to Lawrence Tractor Co. Inc. for the purchase of a John Deere 344 P-Teir Compact Wheel Loader through the Sourcewell Cooperative contract in the amount of $209,027.93 and authorize an additional appropriation of funds in the amount of $10,000 from the Solid Waste Enterprise Fund.
Background Discussion:
The Solid Waste Division utilizes a front loader for routine and specific duties at the Public Works Corporation yard, including general cleanups, loading and unloading debris on a daily basis, as well as at Dump-On-Us events. Currently, the Solid Waste Division operates an old 2000 loader belonging to the Streets Division. This piece of equipment no longer meets California Air Resources Board (CARB) compliant standards and replacing it with a newer unit will aid in the City's effort to maintain fleet-wide CARB compliance. The Streets Division rarely utilizes the existing unit, so in an effort to right-size the City's fleet and allocate resources appropriately, the existing unit will be removed from the Streets Division, and the replacement loader will be assigned to the Solid Waste Division that utilizes it.
